Acceptance

.
what you see
as a kind second chance
i feel as a rebuke
.
for i have long abandoned the
fickleness of youth
.
i have long committed to
the pursuit of truth
.
.
.
the best way to get
what you want
is of course
to give it
.
to proudly live it
.
Yeats’ would name it –
history’s great roll call
commemorated, etched in
time, learn’ed and forgiven.
.
his descriptive phrases
fettered with direct speech
his gentle phases
peppered with fury, rage
and such righteous indignation
as enflamed his nation
.
for those loved are hated
elevated or underrated
in equal measure
with equal pleasure
.
floral speech will not protect us –
secrets jealously guarded carry
their own stain
.
when all that’s said is
already known –
all thought
already gained
.
i would rather live this moment
than envy another
.
i accept you as a brother
not just as a lover
.
if like Yeats’ tome
these are my Last Poems
.
so let it be, and known –
that it was perfect.
